ACA to assign radio frequencies for Commonwealth Games
The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) signed a service agreement
with the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation (M2006) for the
ACA to provide radiocommunications support services for the Games.
Under the agreement, the ACA will assign frequencies for radiocommunications
requirements for the Games and conduct inspections to minimise the likelihood
of radiocommunications interference problems, ACA Acting Chairman
Allan Horsley said.
The ACA has already issued radiofrequency licences to assist in the management
of the Queens Baton Relay as it progresses around Australia.
The baton will arrive in Australia on 24 January 2006 and will travel
to every state and territory, concluding at the Melbourne Cricket Ground
during the opening ceremony on 15 March 2006.
Mr Horsley said that funding for the ACA services is part of the Australian
Governments $280.8 million package of support towards staging a
successful Commonwealth Games. Through specialist advice from the ACA,
the Australian Government is contributing to Australias capacity
to deliver the very best in major sporting events.
To assist people visiting Australia, information about operating communications
equipment at the Games is on the ACA website
