Amsat President congratulates Indian hams on Hamsat launchAmsat President Richard Hambly, W2GPS, has sent a message of congratulations
to Amsat-India's Nagesh Upadhyaya, VU2NUD Dear Nagesh: On behalf of AMSAT, congratulations on the successful placement of HAMSAT (VUSat) into orbit! This is a significant achievement for the amateur radio operators of India and around the world. It is truly a special day for your organization as the launch of HAMSAT was personally witnessed by the President of India, Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam. Your new satellite will enhance the capabilities of ham radio operators everywhere and, especially, amateurs of South Asia. Improved ability to assist with communications during times of natural disasters adds to the importance of this launch. As you proceed with checkout of HAMSAT in orbit and verify the satellite's overall health, please know that all of AMSAT eagerly awaits the results of your evaluation. As you may already know, successful launch of an amateur radio satellite
and subsequent transmitter activation in orbit qualifies that satellite
for designation as an OSCAR (Orbital Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio)
satellite. Should you desire to have HAMSAT given your unique OSCAR designation,
please review the qualifications and the procedures at: Again, congratulations on HAMSAT's successful placement into orbit! |
