AREN assists Raynet on Manx Rally

The Roush Manx Rally was held over the weekend of 6 and 7 May. It consisted of 120 miles in 14 stages through the island's streets, hills and countryside, with a high profile finish at the TT grandstand in Douglas.

Each year Raynet provides radio operators at the stages and a control at the TT Grandstand. This year Raynet Isle of Man was assisted by Munster area Co-ordinator Conor O’Neill, EI4JN, of AREN - Ireland's amateur radio emergency communications network - and SWL and rally guru John Harrington, who provided valuable assistance. The event passed without any major incident.

Operations were on 2m and 70cm simplex plus the Isle of Man repeater. A special UHF link was set up to facilitate communications between some of the more remote stages and Raynet control.

Isle of Man Raynet Group controller Dougie Corkhill, GD8KWM, and Raynet Secretary Carol James expressed their gratitude for the assistance provided by AREN and extended an invitation for AREN operators to assist on future events. Conor O’Neill thanked Raynet Isle of Man for the opportunity for both agencies to work together on this high-profile event and reciprocated the invitation for Raynet to take part in future AREN activities.
