Gerritsen still held in jailBail has been set at a quarter of a million dollars for Jack Gerritsen, the former KG6IRO, who was arrested on May 5th and charged with interfering with various radio services. The judge who set bail told Gerritsen that bond would have to be fully secured. This means that he must put up cash or property in the amount of $250,000 to secure his release from custody. As reported last week, Gerritsen was arrested on federal charges of jamming radio frequencies being used by the United States military, the United States Coast Guard, law enforcement and public safety agencies including those used by ham radio operators. Assuming that he is able to make bail, a spokesman in the US Attorney's office said Gerritsen would be subject to home detention and barred from possessing any radio equipment. He might also be fitted with a tracking device like that worn by millionaire business woman Martha Stewart since her release from jail. And like others under government watch Gerritsen's residence would remain subject to search at just about any time. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Wednesday, May 25th, with
arraignment slated for Tuesday, May 31st. As this newscast is prepared, Gerritsen has not made bail and is still being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in downtown Los Angeles.
