Major Armstrong and the Alpine Tower

Remember our story two weeks ago on the upcoming 70th anniversary celebration of the first public demonstration of wideband FM broadcasting in 1935? A broadcast that took place from the famed Armstrong Tower in Alpine, New Jersey?

It now looks as if ham radio is going to be a part of that very special event as well. This, with word that the Major Edwin H Armstrong Memorial Radio Club & Major Armstrong FM Association will operate a special event station to coincide the formal celebration.

Operators will utilize the call letters W2XMN and W2XEA. These were the calls which were assigned to the Armstrong FM station. They will now be used in the 21st century to commemorate this historic 20th century event on the weekend of June 11th and 12th.

For more information about Major Armstrong and this event, please visit the W2XMN web site. Its in cyberspace at www.qsl.net/w2xmn
