PNGARS concern over new broadcast station

The Papua New Guinea Amateur Radio Society is concerned to hear of a possible allocation or intended allocation of 7120 KHz to a Short Wave Broadcaster to be located within Papua New Guinea.

Felix VK4FUQ has more:

"The WRC-2003 conference decided on Agenda Item 1.23 , the 7MHz alignment, after extensive industry consultation and long discussions by Working sub-Group 4C1, that the range 7100 to 7200 KHz would change to become exclusive amateur spectrum after 29th of March 2009.

It seems inconsistent with ITU policy that PNG should be licensing a new broadcaster in a band that has been internationally marked for clearance from broadcasting in less than 4 years.

If PANGTEL is considering licensing such a user for this frequency, the PNGARS would appreciate the chance to lodge a protest in view of international spectrum planning.

At the time of going to air, the Papua New Guinea Amateur Radio Society through Rick Warnett in Port Moresby had not been made aware of any change".
