The Future of Amateur Radio Licensing - Regional Meeting 7th July

From Paul Berkeley M0CJX, RSGB Regional Manager, London and Thames Valley

Regional Meeting On the Future of Amateur Radio Licensing
Thursday 7th July 2005, 7.30pm
The Whitton Community Centre,
Percy Rd,
Twickenham. TW2 6JL.
How to get there: See www.warg.info

Dear Fellow Radio Amateurs

You will know doubt know by now that OFCOM intends to release a consultative paper on the Future of Amateur Radio Licensing. We at the RSGB consider it will be more a case of the future (and death) of amateur radio.

You will also have noticed that in the advance information that de-regulation of the licence is still on the agenda.
The Society truly believes that the death of amateur radio
as a credible and well respected hobby will follow if this happens.

We are most concerned about this and have made our feelings clear at a number of high level meetings at OFCOM. The Society is not prepared to sit back and watch the demise of the hobby, but we cannot do it alone. We need your voice to be added along side our own to challenge the attitude of OFCOM and its officers.

The General Manager of the RSGB, Peter Kirby, and Jeff Smith, The President, will be travelling around the country giving talks that will be followed by open and frank discussions on this crucial issue. They will also explain in the clearest possible terms how we, as a group, can plan an effective response.

We would like to invite you and your members to the talk that will be held in the Southeast region on Thursday, 7th July 7.30pm at Whitton Community Centre, Whitton, Twickenham. The meeting will be supported by the RSGB Regional/district team and will be hosted by Whitton ARG.

The meeting will be open to everyone, members and non members alike. We would like your input and views on this issue, so be sure not to miss this very important meeting. If possible, we would like you also to pass this communication on to amateurs and special interest groups who may not be members of your club or the Society as this issue will affect everyone equally. Please post the attached advert on your websites and in your newsletters. If you need a different format, let me know.
