SARL IARU fund gets a major boost

The SARL IARU fund received a major boost this week and is getting closer to its target of R13 000.

Barry Fletcher ZS1FJ made a R3 000 contribution. He said that SARL membership of the IARU and participation on the international front is important for the future of Amateur Radio in South Africa. He said his contribution is in recognition of the Cape Town Amateur Radio Centre and the SARL, two organisations of which he has been a member for 25 years.

At its monthly club meeting, the Centurion Amateur Radio Club collected R 270 from its members towards the IARU subscription. Every Rand donated by a member was complimented with a further Rand from the club's coffers to make a total contribution of R 540. "The protection afforded to our hobby by the IARU is important to us, and we now challenge all other Amateur Radio clubs to equal or better our effort", said Whitey Joubert (ZR6JJJ), the chairman of the club.

The Pretoria Amateur Radio Club celebrating its 75th anniversary this year has contributed R1 200. At the monthly club meeting the members collected a sum of R350 for the IARU fund. The amateurs were ZR6SW, ZR6REV, ZS6CCW, ZR6GJR, ZS6XN, ZR6OLM, ZS6VG, ZR6WGR, ZS6OAJ, ZS6CS, ZR6BJS, ZS6KR and ZR6CK. The members also agreed that the club would add a contribution on a Rand for Rand basis, bringing the evening's contribution to R700. It was also decided that a box would be provided at the 75th anniversay celebrations to enable other members wishing to contribute to do so. A further R500 was raised.

The target is R13 000 which has to be reached by end May when the SARL subscription to the IARU is due.
