SOTA takes off in Hungary

Hungary joined the Summits on the Air (SOTA) scheme on 1 May. This brings the number of participating countries to 11.

In the same week, the SOTA management team launched ‘SOTAwatch’, a web-based spotting and expedition diary facility. SOTAwatch is similar in some ways to the DX Cluster but has been specially designed by Jon, GM4ZFZ, to provide facilities that are more suitable for SOTA activations.

SOTA is probably the fastest-growing amateur radio award programme in the world. Nearly 6000 summit activations have taken place since it started in 2002, and 1265 summits have been activated so far out of a total of 6888 available.

Work is now in progress to launch SOTA in Switzerland, Poland and the USA
