Amsat at Dayton

This weekend's annual Dayton Hamvention, May 19-21, gave AMSAT volunteers an opportunity to showcase the exciting future of Amateur Radio in Space.

Saturday morning's AMSAT forum presented news of present and future projects including:

+ Phase 3-E Satellite Design and Development
+ Eagle Project Overview and Status
+ Software Defined Transponder, Internal Housekeeping          Unit, Energy Storage Experiments, and Structure Analysis
+ ARISS & SuitSat: Current Status & Future Opportunities
+ Introduction to AO-51 Operation with a Command Station 
   Update

Dr. H. Paul Shuch, N6TX, Director of Education, hosted "Shared Experiences of Using Satellites in the Classroom" at the AMSAT Educator's Forum on Saturday.

Live satellite operating demonstrations were conducted by Drew, KO4MA; Keith W5IU and other volunteers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Contacts on both the FM and SSB satellites were demonstrated.

AMSAT demonstrated operation through the future Eagle and P3E SDX (Software Defined Transponder). Bob McGwier, N4HY, Tom Clark, K3IO and Howard Long, G5LVB had an SDX operating with live displays of signals in the 50 kHz pass band.
