Aussies get to use AX prefix for World Telecommunications Day

The International Telecommunications Union, or ITU, is an international organization established to standardise radio and telecommunications.

The ITU was founded as the International Telegraph Union in Paris on May 17, 1865 and is the world's oldest international organization. May 17 is celebrated annually as World Telecommunication Day.

Following an application by the WIA, the ACMA has approved the use of the AX prefix by all Australian Amateur Radio stations for the period 0001-2359 hours local time on May 17 to mark World Telecommunication Day.
