Czech Republic: TV bids a long goodbye to analogue broadcasting

After five years of political bickering, on April 25 the Chamber of Deputies finally approved amendments to the media law that set the legal framework for the introduction of digital broadcasting in the Czech Republic.

According to a current proposal of the Czech Telecommunications Office (CTÚ), the phasing-out of the analogue signal is to start in 2008, with the last analogue transmitter to be switched off by 2012, which is also the deadline set up at EU level.
