Amateur Radio Foundation Net a huge success

Worthing and District Amateur Radio Club has launched a 'Foundation Net' to help newcomers gain confidence on the air.

Mediated by members of the club's training team, the net also provides advice to Foundation licensees on correct amateur radio procedure and encourages them to keep in contact with fellow students who sat the same course. The mediators, including technical expert Denzil Roden, G3KXF, and net chairman Geoff Patrick, M0EKB, are also on hand to answer any queries the newcomers might have.

The net has been an unqualified success, having been joined by no less than 25 Foundation licensees including a number of women. The Foundation Net starts every Saturday at 1900UTC and normally lasts for two and a half hours.

Through the use of the repeater GB3SR on 145.600MHz, the net provides coverage everywhere from the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth to Crowborough and Uckfield. Since the net was launched, five regular net users have passed their Intermediate exam and a further three now have their Full licence.

Following on from the success of the Foundation Net, Worthing and District Amateur Radio Club has launched two further nets for newcomers. The new HF Foundation Net takes place on Sundays at 1400UTC at 3.650MHz while the new Slow Morse Net is put on air on Monday evenings at 1800UTC on 145.250MHz FM.

All newcomers are welcome to participate in the nets.
