Marconi celebration time

On July 12 2006 the Geelong Amateur Radio Club in conjunction with the Nth West Tasmanian Amateur Radio Interest Group at Devonport, will be staging a re-inactment of the Marconi Companies' historic transmission between
Devonport Tasmania, and Queenscliffe Victoria. A mix of old and modern Radio Modes and Techniques will be used.

The event will be run over 5 Days, with the actual
re-inactment at 1:30 PM on Wed. July 12, approximately the same time as the original Official exchange of greetings between the Governors and Peoples of Victoria and Tasmania was sent 100 years before.

For the event, a replica of the operating section of the original Radio Telegraph Shack will be in place at the original Site near Queenscliffe. Both the GARC and NWTARIG are busy organising the celebration, and are gathering Antique Radio Artefacts and Memorabilia from Museums and Private collections all over the world, to exhibit during the event.

After the re-inactment which will be witnessed by Politicians and Public alike, the replica Shack and a Caravan will remain at the Queenscliffe Site until Sunday July 16, allowing the Amateur Station to operate more or less continuously under the special Callsign VI 3 MC.

All stations interested in the event and Amateur Radio in general are invited to make use of this unique opportunity to contact the Station.
