McMichael Radio exhibitionHarry Hogg, G3NGX, is organising an exhibition of historic McMichael Radio sets at the McMichael Rally and Boot Sale taking place in Reading on Sunday 16 July. The event will also provide a chance to pay tribute to McMichael Radio founder Leslie McMichael. Leslie not only set up the famous eponymous radio maker but also played a key role in the formation of the Radio Society of Great Britain. He helped found the London Wireless Club in 1913. The club, later renamed the Wireless Society of London, was among a number of radio societies that merged in 1922 to form the Radio Society of Great Britain. Leslie served in the Wireless Instructional Section of the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War. When the war ended, he set up a radio business from a stall outside his home in West Hampstead, selling war-surplus equipment to experimenters. The company was later to become a highly respected maker of radio sets. Anyone interested in exhibiting McMichael sets at the rally should contact Harry at e-mail address g3ngx@<no spam>radarc.org.
