Pierced Ears?

An interference problem on HF bands has caught the attention of our national broadcaster.

Trevor Taege VK4BAT reports The ABC in the North West of Western Australia recently ran a story concerning an increase in interference on Royal Flying Doctor Service Channels....

"The story broadcast on ABC Local Radio in Kununurra centres on Charles Gimble a dedicated HF Radio operator who has often intercepted distress calls and acted as an intermediary between Emergency Services including the RFDS and the Police Service.

The report goes on to say, Mr Gimble is concerned that overnight radio interference is wiping out RFDS channel 5300 and other nearby frequencies from 5pm to 5am.

Mr Gimble says the piercing noise has been a constant overnight feature this year.

He's lodged his concerns with the Australian Communications and Media Authority and the RFDS is also keeping an 'ear' on Proceedings."
