Peak performance during SOTA event

The Southern Pennines Fun Day - an attempt to simultaneously activate all 17 Summits on the Air peaks in the Southern Pennines region on Sunday 23 April - was a great success.

Twenty-six radio amateurs were stationed across the 17 Marilyn summits, and almost all of them managed to contact the stations on each of the other summits. There were also plenty of contacts with other activators in the Lake District, Northern Pennines, Welsh Borders, North Wales and Isle of Man regions. The event generated around 750 unique QSOs and introduced at least three new activators to SOTA.

The fun day was conceived by Myke, G6DDQ, and planned with the assistance of James, M0ZZO. James said:
“When Myke first came up with the idea, everyone thought he was a touch crazy and that it would never work. It ended up as an unqualified success with all participants saying what a wonderful time they had.”

The organisers of the Southern Pennines Fun Day are keen to turn it into an annual event. They are also working on plans to repeat the event in other UK Summits on the Air regions.
