Stevenage celebrates golden years

The Stevenage and District Amateur Radio Society is taking part in a series of events in June to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its foundation this year.

The club will operate GB50SAD during Stevenage Day on Sunday 11 June. This call has been issued by Ofcom for the sole purpose of contacting Stevenage’s four twin towns.

As well as operating a variety of modes on VHF and most of the HF bands, the club will also put on a display of radio equipment dating back over the past 50 years. The club’s callsign, G3SAD, will also be put on the air as much as possible in June. Look for the club station on Tuesday evenings between 1830 and 2030UTC.

Anyone who submits a QSL card by 1 September, for QSOs with the club during June, will be entered into a free prize draw. The winner will receive a radio related prize donated by one of the club’s sponsors. The club is also offering a 50th Anniversary Trophy to the club member who works the best DX contact during June. If all this was not enough, the Stevenage & District ARS is also planning a family open day at the club premises.

Further information about all these events can be found on the club’s website - www.g3sad.org
