AuroraWatch NewsOn 24 March 2007 we installed a broadband connection to our magnetometer near Aberdeen. This enabled us to switch AuroraWatch ( http://aurorawatch.lancs.ac.uk/ ) operation over to this site, which is very quiet and ideal for the AuroraWatch alerts system. AuroraWatch was also recently featured on http://www.sunearthplan.net, a site dedicated to providing high-quality articles aimed at the general public, presenting all the exciting science areas related to the International Heliophysical Year 2007. Finally, the team would like to say a big "thank you" to everyone who responded to our request for emails of support last spring. We received over 2,500 messages which were collated and forwarded to the chief executive of the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC). A question regarding the funding cuts was also asked in the Houses of Parliament! Our Lancaster & Wyre MP Mr Ben Wallace has also offered his support and visited our group. We're pleased to report that as a consequence of this widespread support, SAMNET has now been funded until April 2008 and the Lancaster team are working hard to secure its continued operation beyond that date.
