CNN International ends analogue satellite distribution in Europe

CNN International is to end its analogue satellite distribution in Europe on 4 June, when its current contract with Astra expires.

The analogue transmissions at 19.2 degrees East are still used by around half the satellite viewers in Germany, but SES Astra wants to phase out the analogue services and complete the transition to digital.

Some cable viewers in Germany will also be affected, as there are still some cable providers who have not switched from analogue to digital satellite reception. However, in some parts of Germany, including Berlin, CNN is also available terrestrially and free-to-air via DVB-T.

In the Netherlands, the analogue signal from CNN isn’t needed, as all cable providers have switched to digital.
