SU0ARA participation in IARU Region I second
EmCom Party on the Air
The Egyptian Amateur Radio Assembly activated SU0ARA
on 5 May 2007 in the IARU Emergency Communications exercise. Operators
were SU1KM, Mohammed Al Kafrawi, General Secretary of EARA, and SU9NC,
Thomas Poland.
During the 4 hour on the air exercise with other Emergency Communications
special stations, SU0ARA made 17 contacts with region I countries in the
Middle East and Europe.
Amateur radio society headquarters stations A47RS in Oman, and 9K2RA in
Kuwait were among those contacted. Amateur SU1SK, operator Said Kamel,
was also active as an EARA special group station. This demonstrates the
active interest and capability for amateurs in the Middle East to provide
emergency communications support.
Each contact included a short exchange of data to simulate emergency communications
traffic. A summary exchange and contact was made with the Region I EmCom
station OF3F in Finland. This event was an active test of station readiness,
radio frequency propagation, and operational procedures for
efficiently and effectively communicating emergency communications traffic.
The station at SU0ARA performed well, and EARA looks forward to the next
exercise in November this year.
A final report for the entire 5 May event will be published in August
2007 by Greg Mossop, G0DUB, for the Region I EmCom group, which is led
by Seppo Sisatto, OH1VR, the IARU Region I Emergency Communications Coordinator.
