Faster broadband uses up to 2.2 MHz

BT Wholesale will be offering its ADSL2+ technology that transmits a wideband signal up to 2.2 MHz to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) from this week.

In an experiment carried out some years ago it was found that the third harmonic of the original ADSL technology being radiated from thousands of telephone lines could be detected in the 1.8 MHz Amateur Radio band by a station located in the North Sea.

ADSL was subsequently replaced by ADSL2 technology which transmitted a wideband RF signal of up to 1.1 MHz down the telephone lines. The new higher speed ADSL2+ now being rolled out by BT extends this wideband transmission out to 2.2 MHz.
