Hans van de Groenendaal ZS6AKV

South Africa's 2nd satellite SumbandilaSat carries an Amateur Radio payload but is still on the ground awaiting a suitable launch opportunity. An article on the Engineering News website provides more info.

In a video clip available on the site Dr Val Munsami, Manager Space Science and Technology, of the Department of Science and Technology, reveals that problems with the launching of SumbandilaSat have raised the issue of whether or not South Africa should have its own launch capability.

The satellite will carry an amateur radio 2m to 70cm FM transponder and digitalker.
