Thai Telegraph service closes after 133 years

After operating for 133 years the Thai Telegraph service has finally closed down.

The service began in 1875 using a morse key and ended with the teleprinter.

Over 50,000 telegrams were sent in the final week of the service.

In case anyone is wondering how Thai characters were sent over telegraph, it would appear that customers went to the local post office and dictated their message to the clerk who then wrote it out using the English character set.

In a video now available on YouTube, CNN's Dan Rivers reports on the scramble to wire a message as Thailand's 133-year-old telegram service comes to an end.
