The Chicks Are Back! W9YL Mother’s Day Special Event
Chick Factor International, our up-and-coming YL-only club, will return to the airwaves on Sunday, May 10, with a special event honoring Mother's Day.
Or, as the colorful certificate reads: "In commemoration of our Moms, Sisters, Grandmothers, Aunts, Wives, and the other loving and lovable chicks in our lives."
The latest W9YL effort, again transmitting from our Comm Center in the heart of Indianapolis, will begin around 1400 UTC May 10 and continue till at least 1700. Chick Factor president Heather Heininger, KB9ZLB, will kick off the festivities and perhaps be joined by other ladies of the club.
W9YL will operate mostly on 20 and/or 40 meters—14.280 and 7.280 MHz (plus or minus QRM)—but all ham bands are fair game! Check DX Summit (www.dxsummit.fi) for frequent updates on our whereabouts. The W9YL Mother's Day certificate is available to SWLs as well as licensed amateurs.
If that's not enough YL activity, keep your ears open later this month when Chick Factor International's big brother, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Amateur Radio Club, again turns its microphones over to the ladies on the eve of the Indianapolis 500.
Our 2nd annual Chick Factor Night will begin at 2100 UTC Saturday, May 23, and continue till at least 0000 Sunday, May 24. Borrowing the W9IMS callsign, the Chicks will take charge of every rig in the Comm Center, and any OMs on the premises will be required to serve food, beverages and chocolates to the busy ladies.
Membership in Chick Factor International is free, permanent, and open to YLs of any age and any license class ... anywhere. There's even a membership category for "Chick Factorettes" or non-licensed females, in hopes of encouraging their interest in the hobby. For information on how to get a Chick Factor membership card complete with serial number, follow this link: www.w9yl.com
Chick Factor International may also put in an appearance at Dayton ... watch the W9YL Web site for updates.
And remember ... whenever W9YL takes to the airwaves, you'll hear "All chicks, all the time!"
73,
Brian, W9IND
