Monitoring Monthly magazine ceases publication

The current economic recession has seen many businesses go-under in recent weeks, and one of the most recent of these affects our hobby.

Monitoring Monthly magazine appears to be the latest casualty of the economic downturn, and is reported to have closed.

In a letter sent to the magazine's subscribers, Kevin Nice, G3UNR, the Managing Director of Nice One Publishing Limited, announced the magazine's closure, citing financial problems for its demise.

A transcript of Kevin's letter is reproduced below:

27 April 2009

Dear Sir/Madam
I write to inform you that, as of today's date, the Director of Nice One Publishing Limited has taken the decision that the Company is unable to continue trading. In spite of a relatively successful 2008, due to current economic circumstances, 2009 has proven to be very disappointing.

I had hoped that it would be possible to continue, but in spite of best efforts, the Company has reached the point where its funds are totally exhausted and as Director, I am no longer in a position to continue to support Nice One Publishing Limited. This has meant that the Company is unable to meet any outstanding commitments, and therefore, all activities have ceased.

I would like to apologise to all those creditors who remain unpaid and am sorry that no more Monitoring Monthly magazines can be published.

The following statement has appeared on the Monitoring Monthly website:

"Sadly we announce that this is the last issue of the best Radio Listeners' Magazine! The publishers of MM have, as a result of difficult trading conditions, ceased trading. This website will remain operational for the foreseeable future to allow MME customers to download there electronic issues. The Management and Staff of Monitoring Monthly extend their thanks to all their customers and contributors. We are proud of what we have achieved with the magazine and dismayed at the unavoidable closure"

Editor's comment:
It's a sad reflection of the times that yet another radio publication has been forced into closure. It was an excellent and well-produced magazine, and will be missed by very many in the hobby.
