Ofcom issues record fines in 2008

On Tuesday, the UK regulator Ofcom published its first Enforcement Report revealing the range of enforcement action that the regulator has taken to protect listeners, viewers, telecoms customers and people using the airwaves.

The report reveals that in 2008 Ofcom issued broadcasting fines totalling almost £7.83 million for breaches of the Broadcasting Code, fined companies over £100,000 for breaking the rules on silent calls and prosecuted 28 criminals for illegal use of the airwaves.
