GB70BRS on the air June 5-6The radar commemoration station GB70BRS will be on the air again during the weekend of June 5-6. Dave G4HUP writes: As you will recall from earlier in the year, 2010 is an important anniversary in the history of radar, and of our little part of the world. We had the very successful GB75BRS event back in February to mark 75 years since Watson-Watt and Wilkins demonstrated the principles of radar in Northhamptonshire. Many local stations called in on 80m and on 6m (and we even took a few calls on our local co-ord spot on 70cm FM!) Now we are leading up to the 70th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Britain. Over the weekend of 5 and 6 June (yes, I know it's NFD weekend too!) we will be running GB70BRS from the Manor building at Bawdsey. Operation will be similar to GB75BRS, except that there will be more of a focus on 6m, as there should be a bit more DX around (Sp-E) and its also a UK 6m group contest that weekend. We are also adding 2m and 70cm FM as another opportunity for local stations to call in. As before, we will be open to visitors - this time the opening hours will be Sunday 6 June only, between 10:00 and 16:00 local time. The Manor house and grounds are not open to the public, only our station and exhibition, but we welcome anyone who wants to come and see what we are doing - please go to the BRS website (http://bawdseyresearchstation.org.uk) and register for your visit! Also, don't forget the Bawdsey Certificate - available to stations who worked GB75BRS and also work GB70BRS on either the June or September weekend. The Certificate costs £5, and proceeds from this go to the RAF Benevolent Fund, who do a lot of good work in supporting serving and past RAF personnel and their families. For any of you who worked all three sites in the February weekend (ie GB75BRS, GB75CH and any of GB75RDF, GB0RDF or GB4WWR), remember that the Daventry Certificate is still available - similar conditions to the Bawdsey Cert, above. This time proceeds are going to the British Legion, at the request of the Daventry organising group. More information and sample copies of the certificates can be seen on the website. We hope to work you and see you, over the weekend!
Best 73, Dave G4HUP
