UK’s first HF Internet Link Gateway operational

The UK’s first HF Internet link Gateway is now operational on 29530kHz. It is operated by Ian, M0CJY, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, who would be pleased to receive reception reports. The Gateway uses Echolink and when propagation is good it will be widely available to stations world-wide using 10 metres FM. The link is simplex and requires no tones. Around 21 UK 10m Internet Gateways are set to become operational using either 29530 or 29630kHz. For a full list please visit the RSGB Datacoms committee website.

A reminder that all current NoVs which have been issued to allow operation of an ‘Internet gateway’ on a simplex frequency, via the RSGB Data Communications Committee, will expire on 31 December 2004 unless renewed before 17 December. No applications to renew existing Internet Voice Gateway NoVs will be accepted after 17 December, so if you hold an NoV, your online application must be submitted by that time.

The system will be reopened for new applications only on 3 January 2005. This means that unless you submit your renewal by 17 December, your NoV will expire and you will need to submit a fresh application - which, unlike a renewal, will not be automatically granted - when the system reopens in January. The renewal system is totally web-based and you will be able to complete the procedures in a single transaction
