South African radio amateur tops DXCC honour roll

Bernie van der walt, ZS4TX, is the third South African radio amateur who has reached the top of the ARRL DX honour roll. The first and second South Africans to reach this position are the late Van van der Watt, ZS6LW, and Chris Burger, ZS6EZ.

This honour is bestowed on radio amateurs who can prove that they have contacted all existing DXCC entities.

There are 335 of these entities, which in most cases are independent countries. There are some entities that are not independent countries, but are regarded as separate because of geographical isolation. An example is Marion Island, which is a sought-after separate entity even though it is South African territory.

Some six other South Africans radio hams are on the DXCC Honour Roll, needing less than ten entities to be confirmed. Congratulations to Bernie on his achievement. Welldone!
