Islamic radio station launches on DAB in Bradford, UK

The first permanent Islamic radio station to be set up in the UK has been launched in Bradford.

Islam Radio will broadcast around the clock on DAB.
The station will feature discussion programmes, women's and children's programmes and will even feature live link-ups to the holy mosques of Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem.

Islam Radio is the brainchild of Mohammed Sajid, who set up the station in response to growing calls from his local community for a dedicated Islamic radio station. Although targeted mainly at Bradford's Muslims, Mr Sajid said he hoped to involve all members of the community.

Over the coming weeks the station has scheduled programmes that will address local issues such as health, education and politics and there are plans to invite the leaders of all of Bradford's faith groups on to the airwaves.
