A quick way to an Amateur Radio Advanced
licence
Nigel G1JKE posted the item below on http://www.qrz.com/
It highlights a way of getting a UK Amateur Radio Advanced licence
by first getting a USA Licence, the exam can be sat in the UK, completely
bypassing the Foundation-Intermediate-Advanced structure.
Both the USA Technician and General Exams are simple 35-question
multiple-choice examination, there are no practical assessments.
In the case of General a 5wpm morse test is still required but the
FCC plans to scrap that in 2006.
The entire pool of questions for the Technician and General exams
giving the 4 possible answers that will appear on the exam paper,
with the correct answer shown, can be downloaded from http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/pools.html
Some clubs in the USA run Courses for the Technician licence which
last just a single weekend. They are basically memory exercises,
they teach the correct answer to each of the questions in the pool.
You then immediately sit the exam and get your licence.

Darley Amateur Radio Club have just launched their new website
at http://www.darleyarc.org.uk/
They have an active ARRL VE team who are able to organise FCC examination
sessions in North Yorkshire.
Anyone in the UK who fancies taking the US exams and obtaining
a US callsign should complete the pre-registration form on the website.
Remember that OFCOM will grant a UK Full licence for a US Technician
licence.
