Amateur radio Remembrance Day service ruined

A confusion over the broadcast times of the annual South African Remembrance Day service ruined the relay on the amateur bands.

The annual service pays tribute to radio amateurs who have fallen in defence of their country.

The tribute will be rebroadcast today at approximately 10:45 CAT as part of Amateur Radio Mirror International.

It can be heard on several local repeaters and on AM on 17 700 kHz and 7 205 kHz. There is also a relay on SSB on 7 082 kHz and a web stream on www.zs6mrk.org. There will be a repeat transmission on Monday at 21:45 CAT on 3 215 kHz.

Although a week late, the significance of the service is the same and all radio amateurs are requested to observe radio silence during the broadcast of the service.

The service will be conducted in Afrikaans by Rev. Lendus de Villiers, ZS6LLV, minister of the Rietfontein-North congregation of the Dutch Reformed Church.
