Rusty Radio Rally
Many local radio rallies have sadly disappeared over the past few
years, so it was refreshing to see that a local group of enthusiasts
had got together and organised a rally of their own.
To quote a few words from their website (www.rustyradios.com)
:
“We are a small group of amateurs living in the Hertfordshire
area with a keen interest in contesting, construction and /P operation.
Look out for M0RRC/P!. Some of us also have interest
in restoration and repair of vintage and classic equipment, while
others are at the forefront of digital design and software control
systems. We all have one thing in common though, and that is a genuine
passion for Amateur Radio and promoting the hobby in the most positive
way possible.”

They wanted to run an ‘Old Fashioned’ radio rally with
no computer equipment allowed. That sounded fine to us (The
Southgate Amateur Radio Club) so we booked a couple of tables
and turned up on the day, 30th October 2005 at Cottered Village
Hall in Hertfordshire with some equipment to sell.
Much of this was what is unkindly described as 'Junk', but which
is often sought-after equipment that someone has been looking for!
We also had some excellent equipment from one of our members who
is clearing out gear no longer required.
The photos will give you an impression of the event and the obvious
interest shown by local amateurs and enthusiasts at this first attempt
by the Rusty Radio group. We wish them well and hope they will be
encouraged to run further events in the future.
