USA Technician - UK Full (Advanced) Licences

It has been reported that Ofcom have decided that Full (Advanced) UK amateur radio licences will no longer be issued as reciprocal to the USA Technicians licence.

The UK has for many years issued Full (Advanced) M0xxx licences to US Technician holders despite the Technician exam only being slightly above the level of the UK Foundation.

Some UK citzens have used this a quick way to get a UK Full licence.

All they had to do was sit just the simple US Technician multiple choice exam paper. This can be sat in this country and all the question and answers are available on the web.

They then applied to the FCC for a Technician licence and then applied to Ofcom for a UK Full M0 licence under the terms of the reciprocal agreement.

It is unclear at the present time what, if anything, Ofcom will issue to US Techicians in it's place.
