Amateur
Radio and Veterans Day 2006
On 11/11/06, the ARMAD group operated from
the WWII Victory Museum in Auburn, Indiana.
We operated HF, and Echolink, and made some very good contacts as we
worked to promote our hobby.
We had several visitors at the stations, and several visiting Amateur
Radio Operators came by to learn about ARMAD.
The highlight of the day was the ability to allow a lady from the audience
to speak live to a group over Echolink via the Iraq Echolink node to leave
a message for her son serving in Baghdad.
We also operated from the Golden Corral in Fort Wayne during Military
Appreciation Monday on 11/13/06.
Our local operators braved the cold to allow our Veterans and Troops to
receive messages of thanks and appreciation over the air.
Thanks goes out to all Amateur Radio operators that helped us make this
event a success. We were able to put several WWI, and Vietnam Veterans
on the air from our location to tell short stories of their experiences.
They were so excited to be able to do this. One Veteran served at IWO
JIMA.
We also had a steady stream of people come out to ask questions and to
view our activities. We received a lot of good feedback, and thanks.
We talked to Amateurs from around the Country, and a group of Veterans
from Belfast, Ireland joined us to share their thanks also.
ARMAD was organized to promote Amateur Radio, and to provide a public
service to our Troops, Retired Military, and Veterans.
You can find out more about ARMAD at www.armad.net.
Thank you, and let's continue to "Ham It Up For The Troops."
