Touré of Mali elected ITU Secretary-General
Hamadoun Touré of Mali was Friday elected
Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) at
a meeting of the UN telecom body in Antalya, southern Turkey.
Touré, director of ITU’s Telecommunications Development
Bureau since 1995, beat five other candidates in the race for the post
in which nearly 1,150 delegates voted.
The new Secretary-General replaces Yoshio Utsumi of Japan.
