Radio Bulgaria’s DX programme turns 49!It was born November 17, 1957 as a monthly feature. Due to popular request, in June 1961 it became a weekly one. Initially being entirely dedicated to Amateur or Ham Radio, a couple of years later broadcast tips have been added provided by Rumen Pankov. When for personal reasons he became unavailable to contribute for about 10 years, Pavel Yordanov took over until his death. Since then Rumen has resumed responsibility again. As a matter of fact, our DX Program has been not only the longest running program in the history of Bulgarian broadcasting, but in world terms too, notably second only to the late Alistair Cook’s 58-year running “Letter from America” of the BBC. Its founder, writer and editor has invariably, for 49 years now, and without fail, been Dimiter Petrov, an active ham radio operator with the call sign LZ1AF, an industrial designer by profession, whom we have been lovingly calling “DX Petrov.” Our DX Program has been striving to satisfy the varied interests of our large audience ranging from ham radio communications and DXing, contests, emergency communications, satellites, topics of general and specific interest to broadcast listening and DXing. The very favorable feedback has been encouraging us because our DX Program has been intended to be your DX Program. We believe that you will be with us throughout its 50th year!
