£2.99
HF Radio available in Superdrug stores
Hans Summers G0UPL reports that, like last
year, the Superdrug store chain are selling an HF radio for just £2.99.
Hans says:
I opened it when I got home.
The board layout is different to the 2005 superdrug radio, but it appears
to be a very similar circuit: same number of canned inductors, same 10
position switch, similar frequency counter PCB. The chip is the 28 pin

Last year I traced out the circuit diagram of the 2005 radio see http://www.hanssummers.com/radio/superdrg/index.htm
but I have absolutely no inclination to repeat the experience this year!
The case was easy to open (one screw in the middle of the case, one in
the battery compartment). But removing the main PCB from the plastic framework
inside results in unstringing the tuning capacitor reduction drive. I
imagine that this will/would be a little tricky to correctly re-string,
if one should want to put the radio back together.
