European Parliament members get Amateur Radio Year PlannerAn Amateur Radio 2009 Year Planner has been sent to all Members of the European Parliament. The website of the Austrian National Society OeVSV reports that Amateur Radio is being promoted to Members of the European Parliament (MEP). In 2007 the IARU Region 1 EUROCOM Working Group held a successful Amateur Radio exhibition in the European Parliament. As a follow-up they recently sent a promotional Amateur Radio 2009 Year Planner to all 785 Members of the European Parliament along with an introductory letter, co-signed by MEP Fernando Fernandez-Martin EA8AK and IARU Region 1 EUROCOM WG chairman Gaston Bertels ON4WF. The Year Planner, created by RSGB staff, highlights the use of Amateur Radio in Space, Emergency Communications and Training and has pictures of three well known Amateur Radio operators - the first UK astronaut Helen Sharman, Eagle guitarist Joe Walsh, and King Juan Carlos.
