Shuttle delivers new Flight Engineer

Space shuttle Endeavour and the STS-126 crew arrived at the International Space Station at 5:01 p.m. EST Sunday, delivering equipment and supplies and a new crew member to the orbital outpost.

After the hatches between the station and shuttle opened at 7:16 p.m., the two crews exchanged greetings and went to work preparing for joint operations.

Post-docking activities included a crew member exchange. STS-126 Mission Specialist Sandra Magnus, KE5FYE, replaced Expedition 18 Flight Engineer Greg Chamitoff, KD5PKZ, who will return to Earth with STS-126. The crew transfer became official when Magnus' custom-made seatliner was installed into the Russian Soyuz spacecraft docked to the station.

The shuttle and station crews will prepare Monday for the first STS-126 spacewalk by Mission Specialists Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, KD5TVR and Stephen Bowen.
The spacewalk is set to take place Tuesday.
