1818 Australia's first lighthouse, South Head, Sydney.

1837 Pittman publishes his shorthand "Stenographic Sound-Hand".

1888 Tamworth, NSW, first town in Sthn Hemisphere to be lit by electricity.

1889 Britain's W.Friese-Green patents his motion picture camera.

1897 Marconi transmits ship to shore 18 miles.

1899 First US radio company incorporated in Prescott, Arizona.

1902 First helicopter to carry a man rises 2 metres, Lisieux, France.

1923 Broadcasting starts in OZ by 2BL (2SB) with a concert on the evening.
