Mexican near-space balloon repeater

On November 20th 2010, the Amateur Radio Club of the state of Guanajuato in Mexico will launch their second high altitude balloon project called SARSEM-ICARUS II, Mexican Aerostatic Sub-Space Repeater System by its initials in Spanish.

It will carry a cross-band repeater system (U/V), APRS, temperature, voltaje sensors, flight computer, and a secondary backup system including other GPS and control system. Also will carry a photo camera and a video camera transmitting video at 900Mhz (channel 1).

In this second edition of the project they are including a mechanical balloon release system, that will separate the balloon in the instant it explodes.

The past project they reach 100,000 (30,000 m) ft and had a repeater coverage of 535 miles (862Km) almost enought to cover all the central part of Mexico. Also they took amazing photos of the stratosphere and the blackness of the space.

Donations via Paypal are welcome for completing this project that will be lauched on the International Balloon Festival in the city of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, featuring more that 200 Hot Air balloons and the Celebration of the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution.
