Six-year old Ham

In August Priscilla Harder took and passed her Amateur Radio exam and earned the call sign KD0PLJ.

Six-year old Priscilla Harder KD0PLJ of Newton, Kansas earned her Technician class license during an examination session held at the Kansas State Convention.

She is part of an Amateur Radio family with both her parents licensed hams, her dad Kent is N0XOS and her mother Dana KB0RAT. She has a younger sister Phebe, as yet unlicensed, who hopefully will get her call sign in a couple of years.

The USA Technician class license is equivalent to the United Kingdom Foundation but the big difference is the power levels.
In the UK Foundation holders are limited to a maximum of 10 watts output, in the USA Technicians can run 1.5 kilowatts on amateur bands above 30 MHz and 200 watts output on segments of 3.5, 7, 21 and 28 MHz.

A sample Technician exam can be done at http://www.qrz.com/ht/
