WIA President pleased with progress so far

WIA President, Michael Owen, VK3KI, said that he was very pleased with the progress of the WIA since the Constitution creating a single national body was adopted some 5 months ago.

Some people had predicted a dramatic drop in membership, and Consequential financial problems. He was pleased to assure members that these predictions had no basis. While some renewal notices were sent out up to 6 weeks later than previous years, it would seem that it was likely that at the end of the current billing cycle (at the end of June next year), the Institute would be likely to have at least the same number of members as it had when the new
Constitution was adopted.

The total membership of the WIA today is 3,739.
So, as best we can compare the figures, our membership is 3.2% less now than it was at the same time last year.

Of the 2107 renewal notices for July and August sent out, 1,899 have renewed. That is just over 90% who have renewed

Since 16 May this year 142 new members have joined the WIA. Based on the number of members currently joining it is expected that without any membership drive initiatives the number of people joining the WIA in the first 12 months will be around 400.

What was exciting, said Michael, was that this was achieved without any real membership drive.
