WIA team success in 2005 ARDF Championships

Here is the report of the 6th Region 3 ARDF Championships held between the 19th and 24th of September in the Niigata Region of Japan.

WIA Australia were represented in the Open section by Adam VK3YDF and Mark VK3JMD. For the M40 Section, Bryan VK3YNG and Bruce VK3TJN were our representatives.

9 Countries attended the championships. ARDF is similar to Orienteering but the main difference is competitors must find up to 5 transmitters placed around the course. The competitor who finds the most transmitters in the shortest possible time is deemed the winner of their category.

Bands contested are 80 and 2m. For the 80m competition in the open category Adam VK3YDF was awarded Silver and Mark VK3JMD Bronze. For the M40 category Bryan VK3YNG took the Gold medal and Bruce VK3TJN took the Silver. In each category you have up to 3 competitors in a team. Team results for the 80m event saw WIA awarded the Gold in both the open and M40 categories.

Two days later it was the 2m event, this course and competition was much tougher than the 80m event but even so the WIA team did very well.

In the open section Adam VK3YDF was awarded the Silver and Mark VK3JMD was 8th. For the M40 section Bruce VK3TJN was 5th and Bryan VK3YNG was 8th.

For the team event in the open section WIA was awarded the Gold and in the M40 section the Bronze medal. On behalf of the WIA I wish to congratulate all of the WIA team members and look forward to getting a full report
when they return home.

73 and good hunting this is VK3WWW, WIA ARDF Coordinator.
