BFBS gets new community radio licence for Lisburn

The British Forces Broadcasting Service gets one of 18 new community radio licences announced yesterday by UK media regulator Ofcom.

The licence is for Lisburn in Northern Ireland, where BFBS will launch a new local radio station for thousands of servicemen and their families early in 2006.

Currently BFBS has a Restricted Service Licence for an AM service on 1287 kHz, which has operated for the past six years on the main base. Now the station will be able to broadcast to military families living in the surrounding area.
