Still no word of progress in CBC/CMG talksThe Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and its biggest union, the Canadian Media Guild (CMG), have been continuing contract talks in Ottawa all weekend, and a news blackout was extended to 6 am local time yesterday, and later to 6pm. The discussions are taking place at the federal labour department offices,
with a federal mediator involved. The CBC locked out its 5,500 CMG employees, journalists, programme producers and technicians, on 15 August in a contract dispute. Since then, CBC has been reduced to a "bare bones" service produced by management. The CBC made an offer to settle the dispute on Thursday. The union rejected the offer, but both parties agreed to a news blackout while further talks continued.
