Hutt River Province IARU membership bid fails

A recent bid by the Royal Amateur Radio Society of the Hutt River Province Principality (in side the VK6 call zone) to gain recognition through membership of the International Amateur Radio Union has been unsuccessful.

Hutt River Director General of Communications, Eddie DeYoung says it's disappointing that the IARU Region 3 Secretariat did not respond positively to the initial application.

However Mr. DeYoung says ultimately there will be success in RARS becoming a membership society of the IARU and participating in regional amateur radio affairs.

The small country that has just celebrated 35 years of independence from Australia, is located just north of Geraldton, Western Australia.

Eddie DeYoung says the RARS which was formed on 1 July 2005, is still gaining the support of individual radio amateurs who are joining as members.

The aim continues to be the gaining of a callsign prefix from the ITU for Hutt River so it can become a DXCC entity.
