Poundshop receiver, 2m narrowband FM?

Hans G0UPL speculates that it may be possible to use the Poundshop radios for 145 MHz narrowband FM. If anyone tries this out, please let us know.

Another possible mod for the TDA7088-based Poundshop radios? How about 2m narrowband FM receiver? Probably a much more extensive mod - but see the Philips app note
titled "TDA7000 for narrowband FM reception".

Since the TDA7088 is similar to the TDA7000 but adds the scan tuning, the app note is probably applicable to the TDA7088 also. Yes, I know the datasheet says the TDA7088 is only good to 110MHz but bear in mind, they probably only say that because that's where they tested it up to, thinking it covers the usual VHF band and that's all it needs to do.

Remember also that the oscillator in the SA602 is specified only to 200Hz but I have mine in my spectrum analyser as a VCO sweeping 145 to 300MHz... so I think the TDA7088 may well still be Ok at 144MHz.

I stand zero chance of playing with this myself in the foreseable future but thought it might be of interest to some Poundshop experimenters.
